Keyfinder Command Line Version
The award-winning Keyfinder is now available in a command line version. This low-cost utility will find a lost Windows or Office product key (CD key) from an existing installation. Keyfinder is compatible with Windows 98 through Windows XP, Office 97, Office XP, and Office 2003.
Finding your product key via the command line can be useful if you need to boot Windows in safe mode with command prompt to retrieve your product key from a damaged operating system.*
Network administrators can run the command line version on users' computers, without the need for interaction from the users! Note that if you plan on using this program on your network, you must buy a license for each computer you will use in on.**
Please note the following:
* The program cannot retrieve product keys in the Windows recovery console or DOS mode. If you can no longer boot Windows on an otherwise functional hard disk, you may wish to purchase the Keyfinder Boot CD, listed in the Product Quick Links.
** The syntax to run the Keyfinder is as follows:
|
Command | Description |
| Keyfinder | displays Office and Windows key in a command window and pauses |
| Keyfinder [filename] | writes Office and Windows key to a file and the command window disappears. |
| Keyfinder [/u] [filename] | writes Office and Windows key to a ?unique file?, which is the computer name appended to the filename; the command window then disappears |
Examples:
Keyfinder /u C:\key.txt - writes Office and Windows key to a file named SalesComputerkey.txt on C:\
Keyfinder \\128.167.92.110\Shared\key.txt ? writes Office and Windows key to a file named key.txt on a remote shared drive, where everyone has write permissions. |
